Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

Coronavirus Pandemic - Vehicles that have MOTs due from 30 March will have their date moved 6 months forward – so tests due on 30 March 2020 will become due on 30 September 2020, and so on.

  • Question 1

    HOW LONG WILL THIS CONTINUE

The government will keep this under review to manage the spread of COVID-19.

  • Question 2

    HOW WILL THIS WORK?

DVSA will start moving MOT expiry dates automatically in the MOT system from 30/3.

  • Question 3

    IS THE GARAGE DOING MOTS?

Some customers may still wish to have MOTs beyond the 30/3, even if their car is exempt – and you can do this.

  • Question 4

    IS MY CAR ROADWORTHY?

The current failure rate for MOTs is 30 percent. For Scotlands Ash Garage, that means on average 60 vehicles a month will not pass the basic roadworthiness test (MOT). We are extremely concerned by this figure.

  • Question 5

    WHAT ABOUT TAXIS?

Taxis still have to still comply by the current roadworthiness tests.
