MOTs are still being carried out as normal, along with servicing and repairs. We continue to follow NHS and Government guidelines on social distancing.

If you need us to collect your car, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you during these difficult times.

    The Year ahead!

From the Garage: Peter Welch gives his thoughts on the year ahead for the garage trade.

It’s been a strange year for the garage trade. Many garages have seen the volume of work decrease and as a result been discounting. We are not in favour of discounting, especially not on MOTs. It’s a false economy for the motorist and often the workshops are incentivsed to ‘pressure sell’ the motorist.

Contrast this almost ‘race to the bottom’ with the increase in pace of technological change in the automotive aftermarket and something has to give. Motorists can’t expect us to invest in the latest technology – covering all makes of vehicle – and not charge appropriately for it.

As an independent garage, we need to maintain our credibility in the wake of this technological revolution, to ensure confidence within our customer base. For decades we’ve been saying garages must invest or get left behind. We may now be entering the decade where we experience a real change in vehicle service and repair. We will be ready, putting the needs of our customers first!

Free winter health checks from Scotlands Ash Garage

Didcot’s award winning garage Scotlands Ash Garage is offering Oxfordshire motorists free winter vehicle checks as part of its drive to raise awareness of the potential hazards of winter driving and the need to operate a vehicle that is fully road worthy.

Scotlands Ash Garage mechanics, based on Main Street, West Hagbourne, have voiced concerns in recent months at the poor quality of vehicle components on vehicles that have been subject to a full service at a discount price by national chains.

Therefore, the Scotlands Ash Garage ‘while you wait’ winter check will comprise a thorough inspection of fluid levels including antifreeze, oil and screen wash, along with tyre tread depths and pressures to name but a few. If work is required, motorists will be consulted beforehand and a proper quote provided.

The garage will also provide some practical advice on how to drive in difficult conditions, particularly vehicles with automatic gearboxes.

Scotlands Ash Garage proprietor, Peter Welch, said: “Some of the roads around Oxfordshire can be extremely treacherous in winter conditions and so it’s essential that vehicles are roadworthy. Our winter vehicle check is about preventative maintenance and designed to save motorists money and hassle in the event of an unexpected breakdown due to the adverse weather conditions.”

Scotlands Ash increases donation to Teenage Cancer Trust

Didcot-based Scotlands Ash Garage has now raised a staggering £10,000 to date as it continues to deliver on its pledge to donate £1 to Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) for every MOT it undertakes.

The business has long been a keen supporter of the life-saving charity, after Scotlands AshGarage proprietors, Peter and Ruth Welch, experienced first-hand how cancer can affect young people when their own daughter, Libby, was diagnosed in 2015 with a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour at the age of just 20.

Thanks to pioneering treatment for her cancer and skills and dedication of the NHS alongside the support from family and friends, Libby received the all clear and is now in remission.

With around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every single day in the UK, whom need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer.’ TCT is the only charity committed to providing world-class cancer services for this unique age group in the UK. The life-changing care and support provided ensures young people do not have to face the challenges of the disease alone.

More than £1,000 of the total amount has been raised by the TerraClean service network of independent garages, who chose TCT as its dedicated charity for the year, regularly carrying out fundraising activity.

Peter said: “We’re delighted to have raised this amount for Teenage Cancer Trust to date, it is such an important charity and also one so close to our hearts. We would like to thank the community, customers and of course the fabulous TerraClean brand for getting behind our initiative and donating where possible. We look forward to reaching the next milestone in our fundraising.”

Oxfordshire’s leading independent garage is committed to supporting various charities and events, having previously sponsored local football team, Wallingford Town FC and continues to play an active role in the community.

TerraClean launches new formulated GDi cleaner

Randstad has launched a new GDi cleaner under its engine decarbonising brand TerraClean, which dissolves and breaks down harmful carbon deposits providing significantly better results than any other methods taking the same amount of time to perform the service.

The GDi Pressurised Kit features a GDi Rinse and a GDi Clean aerosol can, containing TerraClean Fuel Injector Cleaner and rinsing agents that use molecularly modified gasoline to clean GDI systems intake valves, without the need to disassemble parts of the intake assembly. It also comes with an OEM approved Induction Tool, to offer a complete GDi Service to motorists.

Specially formulated for cleaning Gasoline Direct Injectors and intake valves, the GDi Pressurised Kit cleans injectors, combustion chambers, oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, while reducing harmful emissions. Used with the TerraClean Fuel System Decarboniser, it provides a fast and extremely effective fuel system service.

The cleaner emulsifies the deposits and the rinse removes the softened deposits, which burns easily in the combustion chamber. The friction modifier lubricates the valves and combustion chambers, allowing for better compression.

As GDi deposits are unlike traditional carbon deposits, TerraClean’s GDi cleaner is specifically designed for GDi intake deposits with components that comprise formulas that are superior to existing products. A chemical is used that softens and dissolves the deposits, ensuring no chunks are dislodged which could cause damage to downstream components including the combustion chambers, turbochargers, and catalytic converters.

The result is a highly effective clean in a fraction of the time and at a lower cost than the laborious process of walnut blasting.

TerraClean has a 500+ nationwide service centre network www.terraclean.co.uk, and is widely known for its decarbonising service and DPF cleaning tool. The tool revives blocked DPFs without having to remove them from a vehicle. If more intense treatment is required, the company also offers DPF collection, testing, cleaning and DPF return, offering the additional benefit of removing stubborn ash from the DPF.
